Asti Group Exhibition Company successfully hosted the 3rd annual PractiVet veterinary summit
The region’s most influential industry leaders in the veterinary industry gathered together for the 3rd annual PractiVet summit to discuss some of today’s key questions regarding small animal health and to look forward to the future development if the veterinary industry in Russia. Held in conjunction with Zoo Russia exhibition, the summit brought together prestigious roster of distinguished speakers from all over the globe including USA, UK, Italy and France.
Day one saw the start with the education session of Dr. Michael E. Herrtage, M.A., B.V.Sc., D.V.Sc., D.V.R., D.V.D., D.S.A.M., M.R.C.V.S., Dip. E.C.V.I.M., Dip. E.C.V.D.I. Dr. Herrtage graduated from the Liverpool University and is currently Professor of Small Animal Medicine at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of St. Edmund's College, Cambridge. He is Dean of the Cambridge Veterinary School and is in charge of the small animal medicine and diagnostic imaging services at the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital. His clinical responsibilities include all aspects of small animal medicine and diagnostic imaging, but he has a particular interest in endocrine and metabolic disorders.
He was awarded the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (B.S.A.V.A.) Woodrow Award in 1986 for outstanding contributions in the field of small animal veterinary medicine and the B.S.A.V.A. Blaine Award for outstanding contributions to the advancement of small animal medicine in 2000. He has been President of the British Veterinary Radiology Association, President of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association, President of the European Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine and President of the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation. He is a Diplomate of both the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and of the European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging and is currently President of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He has spoken at many international meetings and published over 180 articles in refereed journals.
Dr. Herrtage sessions looked at the overall vision of the interpretation of thoracic radiographs, abdominal radiographs, the use of diagnostic ultrasound in small animal practice, cardiac imaging in practice, the diagnosis of congenital heart failure, the diagnosis of acquired heart failure and rational therapy in heart failure.
Second day of the event began with the keynote conducted by Dr. Gilad Segev. Dr. Segev graduated
from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. Over the course of his career, for over three years he served as a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (companion - animals). In 2007 he completed his post-doctoral fellowship in Nephrology and Hemodialysis at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis University, Department of Medicine and Epidemiology. He was awarded NIS Grant from the Hebrew University Veterinary Teaching Hospital to study cardiac arrhythmias and serum cardiac troponins in Vipera palaestinae envenomation in dogs. This study was completed and now being reviewed by the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Currently Dr. Gilad works in the Veterinary Medicine Teaching Hospital and is licensed to practice Veterinary Medicine in Israel. He is a member of European Society of Veterinary Internal Medicine and American Society of Nephrology and Neurology. He reviewed and published articles for such editions as The Veterinary Journal, Veterinary records, Israel Journal of Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary journal, Journal of veterinary internal medicine, Journal of small animal practice. Moreover, he has spoken at many scientific conferences and read lectures at such events as European Congress of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). Dr. Segev shared his knowledge and expertise with the audience regarding definition, diagnosis and management of acute renal failure and chronic kidney disease.
The last session of the summit was on allergies and food intolerances and was presented by Dr. Sergio Canello, Founder of Sanypet Spa. Dr. Canello has been Secretary of the Italian branch of the LIGA, worldwide association which includes the homeopaths of all countries. He has written many articles on different veterinary and natural medicine journals and also designed a homeopathic software programme which runs in Windows and is very simple and practical. Dr. Canello has been guest lecturer of Homeopathy at the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the University of Padua for a number of years. He has been invited by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of Barcelona to hold a course in homeopathic medicine.
Overall PractiVet veterinary summit 2010 covered four major sections including diagnostics, cardiology, nephrology and allergology and was designed specifically for private veterinary practitioners. The event provided audience with the very important information. Russian veterinary industry professionals were given a perfect opportunity to network with an impressive line up of international speakers from all cross the world and the summit participants found their insight invaluable for their private practice!
